Greetings from a rainy & cozy Tennessee! This past week has been incredibly relaxing & restful. Exactly what the doctor ordered after running my first marathon. My body was a lot more tender than I'd anticipated and so my workouts over the last seven days have been kept to a bare minimum of walking, planking and minimal easy pace running. Unfortunately, I didn't meet my weekly Pile on the Miles goal of 13 miles, but I'm loving all the rest and my body is starting to feel back to normal again :)
However, I do have an embarrassing discovery to share...
Exhibit A: Here's a still of a video taken of me around Mile 2 from last Saturday:
Yeah, I'm an over-pronator. This fact is actually something I've known for awhile, but before now I thought it was a resolved issue. Lo' and behold, I've been running improperly for at least a year and what's even crazier is that no one (until now) made me stop, look and realize it.
The photo above reveals some serious overpronation that's pretty freaking noticeable. NOT good for distance running. But here's the good news: I haven't injured myself yet and I've accepted that this issue needs addressing.
First off, the running shoes I currently own all have >500 miles logged on them, so I'm going to be purchasing a new overpronation-correcting pair soon! Second, I'm going to be more mindful of my stride from here on out.
Injuries are NOT okay. I've gone through a nasty bout of plantar fasciitis and I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Have you ever had any issues with your running stride? What did you do about it?
