The Nashville Marathon yesterday was a big, fat success! Thank you so much for following along with me on this crazy, running journey. I am beyond grateful for all of the love, advice, support and motivation I've received from everyone over the last four months :)
As for a race recap...

Friday evening was composed of much-needed rest and carb-loading. My parents came into town for the weekend and took us out to our favorite Italian resturant for massive amounts of pasta followed by a treat of delicious gelato!

After dinner, I set out my outfit for the next morning...
the temperature was brisk at 6am, in the upper 30s or thereabouts. I had some toast 'n PB for breakfast and then we headed downtown to the start line.

My Dad & Matt snapped some shots before the race...
and at 7am sharp, we were off! High fives for everyone!!
The race was pretty hilly for the first 8 miles, but flattened out considerably after that. Considering that the race route is where I run normally, I felt very comfortable with the terrain. Even so, the farthest distance in my training was 20 miles, so it really helped to have my oldest sister Bridget round out the last 6.2 miles of the race with me!
My finish time ended up being 5:01:56, and even though I didn't hit under the 5 hour mark, I feel absolutely great about what I've accomplished. A couple of years ago, I would have never thought running a marathon would be in my future. Now, with this monumental achievement behind me (and off my bucket list!), I can move  forward with confidence towards another wonderful goal :)
Oh, and if you're wondering what running a full marathon is like, it's not like running 2 halves. More like, 10. Moving is still pretty difficult today. Luckily, yesterday I had some (pretty watery & awful) beer and a (pretty amazing) piggy-back ride to see me through those tough times.

How do you recover after a long race? (Seriously, y'all, I need tips!) :)

  3. Congrats on finishing! If you happened to get water at mile 10, you probably got it from me! Also, what restaurant did you go to? I love Italian food, but haven't explored too many places in Nashville yet.

    1. Gah! I definitely got water at Mile 10, you're a rockstar for volunteering!!

We went to Bella Napoli in Edgehill Village on Friday night (and had gelato from Legato Gelato after dinner). By far, it's the best kept Italian food secret in Nashville! Plus, you can bring-your-own-wine, and the corking fee is ~half that of getting a bottle at the restaurant :)
